The Atome is our precision panoramic rotator deisgned exclusively for use with fisheye lenses.
The Atome was designed to make the shooting of panoramic images and quick and pain free as possible.
Main benefits for the photographer include:
The Nikon 8-15mm Atome ships as standard with a 4 stop rotator for DX sensors. Option detents of 3,6,8,12 and 24 stops are available.
P.S. By choosing an optional detent you may not be able to stitch your photos into a full 360 x 180 image.
YES, as long as your tripod has either a 3/8" thread or 1/4" thread then it's compatible with the Atome. We do however recommend a professional level tripod with a 3/8" thread.
You sure can, again any accessory that has a 1/4" or 3/8" thread is compatible. We do recommend attaching the Atome directly to the tripod.
Yes it has click-stops, the Atome uses a twin-bearing, sealed ball plunger set-up with a stainless steel base for extremely accurate click stops. Simply rotate the Atome and it will automatically click into the next correct position for your lens.
We're afraid not, the Atome is a single row panoramic rotator. It's sole design criteria was for use with fisheye lenses. This allowed us to keep the Atome as small, light and as simple as possible. We offer a full range of panoramic heads for use with all lenses.
Yes, the stainless steel base in the Atome sets the number of click stops. Swapping over the bases takes less than two minutes. We have Atome bases from 2 stops up to 12 stops. Instructions for changing the bases can be found in the manual section.
Yes, as the Atome is completely modular you can re-configure your Atome for use with different lenses. In same cases you might only need an additional lens ring. For example, the Sigma 8mm base with 7.5º tilt can be used with the Canon 8-15mm, Samyang 8mm and Samyang 7.5mm.

Product was shipped next day, and arrived in about a week (at christmas time, no less!). I had this product unpacked, and set up on my tripod in under 3 minutes. Anyone who claims they need instructions to assemble this product should stick to fingerpainting, not photography.
I know a little about CNC machining, and I know the effort it takes to make the smallest changes to suit different products, I was expecting an "OK" fit for the lens, but that's not what I got. The fit on the Nikon 10.5mm is very snug and precise. The rotation clicks (I bought 12) are solid, and feel well built.
I did a quick and dirty 4x3 shot (Bracketed) 360x180 of my living room, they stitched perfectly, and produced a perfect sphere, with no points needing to be corrected. I was ecstatic.
I do have some very minor gripes, and whilst they're definitely not deal-breakers, they'd make this a 6 star product easily. ;)
They are:
Tools. Whilst the head arrives with 2 Allen Keys/wrenches, I would really love to see some kind of quick-release clamp, not because I want to constantly remove the bracket from my lens, mainly because if it was to come loose at some stage, I don't want to have to go hunting for tools. Not a big deal, just an idea.
Inclusion of a 3/4" to 1/4" Tripod thread adapter. Whilst the head mounts perfectly on my Manfrotto tripod, I would like to be able to also use a ball head, and mount it on that, then I can level easily, and shoot floors if needs be. I guess they don't provide as good a hold as the larger thread, and that may affect the products structural integrity, I guess I'll find out.
As you can see - the negatives I have are seriously not important. Build quality was my main concern, for precise images, and I did a lot of research online, and noticed a lot of bad reviews... I can honestly say that mine was delivered in perfect condition (with only incredibly mild wear marks on the hex heads from I'm guessing manual assembly).
I would like to congratulate the team @ 360Precision for producing a product that they can and should be proud of. Well done guys.
